Jaycee Duggard was only 11 years old when she was kidnapped. In the time she was held captive, she had three children by her captor, and while she herself was only a child, did the best she could to raise them.

Lenny Abrahamson used this case as inspiration for the actual room that Ma and Jack lived.

Jaycee was kept in a sound proof studio in the back yard of her captors. Jaycee describes a single window in the studio, which she often looked out of. She remembers how she would count the flakes of grass, to pass the time.
